SUMMARY:Steps2Serenity: 12 Step Meditation and Prayer Evenings
DESCRIPTION:Manresa offers an opportunity to people on twelve-step programmes to deepen their awareness of themselves as they seek to improve their conscious contact with God “as they understand him.” For very many people\, and especially those involved in a 12-Step Programme\, the Serenity Prayer offers a vision of life that is rooted in faith\, open to new possibilities\, and yet serene in the face of limitations. God\, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference. In Steps2Serenity\, Manresa is offering\, on the third Wednesday of each month – except in June\, July and August – for those who are involved on a 12-Step Programme an opportunity\, through prayerful reflection and meditation\, to come to an awareness of themselves as they are and to improve their conscious contact with God as they understand him. No need to book. Just come along yourself\, or a friend or anybody who you think may benefit from an evening of prayer and meditation in a safe and peaceful environment. All are very welcome. \nManresa Jesuit Centre of Spirituality\, 426 Clontarf Road\, Dollymount\, Dublin 3. Telephone 01 833 1352\, www.manresa.ie \n

Join Professors Michael Kirwan\, Fainche Ryan and Cornelius Casey for what promises to be an exciting event\, one which will help prepare for the forthcoming World Meeting of Families\, and for Pope Francis’ visit to Ireland. SUMMARY:A Discerning Church Listens
DESCRIPTION:Many of us don’t like the idea of abortion in Ireland. But at the same time we feel unsure about imposing our opinion on other citizens. Especially when the pregnancy is problematic. As a parish community which welcomes all\, Gardiner Street Church wants to engage with the questions raised by this referendum. \nPope Francis encourages us: “to create spaces where pastoral workers can be helped and healed\, ‘places where faith itself in the crucified and risen Jesus is renewed\, where the most profound questions and daily concerns are shared\, where deeper discernment about our experiences and life itself is undertaken in the light of the Gospel\, for the purpose of directing individual and social decisions towards the good and beautiful’.” – Joy of the Gospel #77 \nWe want to create a safe space to listen to the teaching of the Church\, the experiences of women facing challenging pregnancies and to the legal consequences of a yes/no vote. So\, you are invited to three meetings in May. \nTuesday 1st May – 8pm to 9.30pm: What is the Church’s teaching on abortion\, the informed conscience and the law?\n(Speaker: Prof. Pat Hannon\, Moral theologian\, Maynooth. Chair: Bishop Eamonn Walsh DD) \nTuesday 8th May – 8pm to 9.30pm: What is the experience of women in Ireland facing challenging pregnancies?\n(Speakers: Ann-Marie Lee\, Health Nurse\, D. Twomey\, Obstetrician Chair: Pat Coyle Jesuit Communications) \nTuesday 15th May – 8pm to 9.30pm: What will be the likely legal consequences of a yes/no vote?\n(Speaker: Prof. Gerard Whyte TCD. Chair: Brian Lennon SJ \nThe aim of the meetings is to promote listening: listening to real life experiences\, listening to the teaching of our Church and listening to the legal realities. This will not be a forum for campaigners but it will be a safe space for you to listen\, inform your conscience and take that step towards a referendum decision.
