SUMMARY:A Discerning Church Listens
DESCRIPTION:Many of us don’t like the idea of abortion in Ireland. But at the same time we feel unsure about imposing our opinion on other citizens. Especially when the pregnancy is problematic. As a parish community which welcomes all\, Gardiner Street Church wants to engage with the questions raised by this referendum. \nPope Francis encourages us: “to create spaces where pastoral workers can be helped and healed\, ‘places where faith itself in the crucified and risen Jesus is renewed\, where the most profound questions and daily concerns are shared\, where deeper discernment about our experiences and life itself is undertaken in the light of the Gospel\, for the purpose of directing individual and social decisions towards the good and beautiful’.” – Joy of the Gospel #77 \nWe want to create a safe space to listen to the teaching of the Church\, the experiences of women facing challenging pregnancies and to the legal consequences of a yes/no vote. So\, you are invited to three meetings in May. \nTuesday 1st May – 8pm to 9.30pm: What is the Church’s teaching on abortion\, the informed conscience and the law?\n(Speaker: Prof. Pat Hannon\, Moral theologian\, Maynooth. Chair: Bishop Eamonn Walsh DD) \nTuesday 8th May – 8pm to 9.30pm: What is the experience of women in Ireland facing challenging pregnancies?\n(Speakers: Ann-Marie Lee\, Health Nurse\, D. Twomey\, Obstetrician Chair: Pat Coyle Jesuit Communications) \nTuesday 15th May – 8pm to 9.30pm: What will be the likely legal consequences of a yes/no vote?\n(Speaker: Prof. Gerard Whyte TCD. Chair: Brian Lennon SJ \nThe aim of the meetings is to promote listening: listening to real life experiences\, listening to the teaching of our Church and listening to the legal realities. This will not be a forum for campaigners but it will be a safe space for you to listen\, inform your conscience and take that step towards a referendum decision.

SUMMARY:Talk with parents on a faith journey
DESCRIPTION:A number of teachers and parents from Belvedere College SJ will speak about their own lives of being parents on a faith journey as part of the series of talks for parents\, staff\, past pupils and the wider Belvedere Community. The ‘panel type’ discussion will be facilitated by Pat Coyle from the Irish Jesuit Communications Office. The event\, in conjunction with the upcoming World Meeting of Families in August\,  will take place at the school Lecture Theatre on Thursday May 10 at 7.30pm. SUMMARY:John Henry Newman: One Day Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This one-day retreat offers an opportunity to engage prayerfully with John Henry Newman. The motto he chose when named a cardinal in 1879 was “Cor ad cor loquitur.” (Heart speaks to heart.) This is a day to allow the heart to rest and to hear\, to be encouraged by the wisdom of Newman as we seek God. \nThe day will consist of talks\, time for reflection and the celebration of Mass. The retreat will be directed by Dermot Mansfield SJ\, author of Heart Speaks to Heart: The Story of Blessed John Henry Newman (Veritas\, 2010). \nThis retreat will be attended by members of the Newman Society of Ireland.
