The Loyola Institute of Theology in the Catholic Tradition is Trinity College Dublin is offering a new Postgraduate Certificate in Christian Theology which can be studied as a stand-alone Certificate, or it can be used as a stepping stone to the MPhil.

Students who opt to do the certificate will join MPhil students to study two compulsory modules, Readings in Classical Theological Texts and Jesus of Nazareth: Son, Christ, Word.  They will also study one optional module.

In the interview above Dr Con Casey, lecturer in theology at the Loyola Institute, outlines the specifics of the year-long course to Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communications. He notes that as well as being a stepping stone to the MPhil degree in theology the course would also be of real use to lay people interested in getting a good theological foundation for parish work or church ministry.

He also explains that the certificate, in line with all Trinity College courses, will be conducted online and in the classroom setting. This ‘hybrid teaching’ is taking place in light of the ongoing concerns around the coronavirus. All social distancing measures will be in place for the face-to-face aspect of the course, which Dr Casey says is a crucial part of the study of theology.

He suggests that those who want to learn even more about the Loyola Institute, this certificate and the MPhil in Christian Theology should register for a 45-minute-long webinar that he and the director of the Institute will host along with two students, at 6pm on Thursday 16 July, 2020. You can join the webinar via Zoom. You can click here to register.

The cost of the certificate course in Christian theology is €3,000 and there are scholarships on offer from the Loyola Institute. For further information regarding the course, click here.
