Ignatius Loyola: Christian Mystic

Ignatian scholar Brian O’Leary SJ speaks with Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communications about his latest book Ignatius Loyola: Christian Mystic ». He felt the urge to write this book because, as he notes, the mystical experiences of Ignatius are not often given adequate attention.

So he wanted to give people the chance to reflect on the important experiences of God that Ignatius speaks of rather than getting lost in the wider biographical details of his life.

Brian O’Leary tells Pat Coyle that whilst people may not have mystical experiences of the same intensity as Ignatius they can and do experience God in their inner lives if they pay attention.

The author’s hope for the reader is that they can take Ignatius’s mysticism and incorporate that wisdom into their own lives. How does God communicate with me on a personal level? – is an important question, he believes.
