Pope Video: At the service of human fraternity
The Pope Video for January 2021 returns to the theme addressed in Pope Francis’ latest encyclical, Fratelli Tutti. In response to all the challenges facing humanity, the Holy Father asks that we open ourselves to each other and unite, as human beings and as brothers and sisters, “with those who pray according to other cultures, other traditions and other beliefs”.
As Pope Francis has said on other occasions, “There is no alternative: we will either build the future together or there will not be a future. Religions, in particular, cannot renounce the urgent task of building bridges between peoples and cultures.”
Religions play an important role on the path to human fraternity. First, they contribute significantly to building fraternity based on their respect for each human person as a creature called to be a child of God. Second, they are a source of enlightenment, wisdom and solidarity, that enrich the societies in which we live. Third, they play an essential role in forming consciences, instilling in the young the profound spiritual values of our respective traditions.
Believers are asked to collaborate among ourselves to give effective responses to the many scourges of our world. These include tackling war and hunger, the poverty that afflicts millions of people, the environmental crisis, violence, corruption and moral degeneration, the crisis of the family and economy, and above all, the lack of hope.
This is the prayer intention that Francis entrusts to the entire Catholic Church through the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network.
