O Sacred Heart of Jesus

Greetings from Dublin on the feast day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Novena time

Today is the final day of our annual novena to the Sacred Heart at Gardiner St. We like novenas here! Lots of prayers, candles, singing, and a guest preacher who this year was Fr. Shane Daly SJ. The Society of Jesus has played a big role in spreading this devotion. You can read a little bit about the Jesuits and the Sacred Heart here

St. Aloysius Gonzaga

Tuesday the 21st June was the feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga. No better man to talk about Aloysius than Fr. Barney McGuckian. https://www.jesuit.ie/podcasts/a-role-model-for-health-workers-and-the-young/.

Retreats and pilgrimages

The summer is a great time to do a retreat, go on pilgrimage or visit a holy place. Three weeks ago I did a pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick with the Faber Community. Celebrating mass on top of the mountain on Pentecost Sunday was a special experience. All Jesuits make an 8 day silent retreat every year and in July I will go to Clongowes Wood College for mine. At the parish here we are planning to go to Knock on the last Sunday of August. Have you thought of doing a retreat or a pilgrimage this summer?

Sons of Ignatius

Fr. Dave and I have just recorded ‘Social, Fruitful, Hopeful’ which will be the last episode of the podcast before the summer break. We have both really enjoyed making the first season and look forward to making more episodes after the summer. Thanks for listening!

Niall’s Notes

Finally, you can now access all the monthly emails I have sent at the Niall’s Notes page on our website. This might be of particular interest to newer subscribers.

Thank you also to those who have been in touch with feedback and questions. I entrust you all to the Sacred Heart!

With prayers and warm wishes,

Fr. Niall
