In The Pope Video, produced by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, Pope Francis encourages us to get involved in the fight against climate injustice, by adopting ecological as well as economic, social and political responses.

Pope Francis: “Let us pray that each of us listen with our hearts to the cry of the earth and of the victims of environmental disasters and the climate crisis, making a personal commitment to care for the world we inhabit.”

Pope Francis goes on to say, “If we took the planet’s temperature, it will tell us that the earth has a fever. And it is sick, just like anyone who’s sick. But are we listening to this pain? Do we hear the pain of the millions of victims of environmental catastrophes?”

The Pope also says that we must commit ourselves to the fight against poverty and the protection of nature and change our personal community habits.

The Season of Creation, an initiative of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development which promotes the celebration of life and the protection of God’s creation, begins on 1 September and ends on 4 October, the Feast of Saint Francis of Assis, the patron saint of ecology.

Father Frédéric Fornos S.J., International Director of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, says, “The earth is crying. Along with the cry of the earth, we also hear the cry of the victims of natural disasters and climate change which is most acutely and directly affecting the countries with fewer resources. Let’s not turn our heads; let’s not be indifferent”.
