11 OCT: Fr John Gwynn SJ Memorial Mass

The centenary of the death of a Fr John Gwynn SJ will occur on 12 October 2015. He was the first Irish Jesuit chaplain to die in the First World War. In honour of Fr Gwynn’s work with the Irish Guards, the Sacred Heart Church, Catherham, Surrey, England will be holding this special Mass. John Gwynn was born at Youghal, county Cork (n.12 June 1866) and educated at St. Ignatius College Galway and St. Stanislaus College, Tullabeg. He taught at Mungret, Belvedere and Clongowes. Fr Paul Andrews SJ wrote an article on Fr Gwynn in ‘Irish Jesuit Chaplains in the First World War‘, Messenger Publications, (2014).
