€100,000 donated to Pioneers
The Pioneer Association has been given a new lease of life due to the generosity of its own members and members of the public who donated €108,000 to its first ever national appeal. Earlier this year there was huge media coverage of the letter from Pioneer Association CEO, Padraig Brady (pictured here). It outlined the perilous financial state the Pioneers were in and his concern that the Association, which addresses problems in society caused by alcohol and drug abuse through faith and prayer, might face closure. “Our closing date for the appeal was the end of August but donations are still coming in”, says Padraig Brady, “So we’ve extended the appeal deadline until the end of the year. We are deeply grateful to all who have responded so generously this far.” See press release below.
Pioneers’ National Appeal Hits Over €100k
Public Thanked for Supporting Association
The Pioneer Association looks set to avoid national closure thanks to the generosity of its own members and members of the general public who have donated almost €108,000 to the Association’s first ever national Appeal.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, Pioneer CEO Padraig Brady said:
“The Pioneer Association is deeply grateful to its members and particularly to the people of Ireland for giving so generously to us in our hour of need. Thanks to the generosity of people both at home and abroad the Association has been spared imminent closure. However, no more than any organisation operating in today’s straightened economic times, the Association remains under financial pressure.
While our Appeal target of €300,000 has not been reached, the Association is very appreciative of the support it has received to date at a time when the pressure and stress of economic worries and hardship are felt daily across Irish society. Our Appeal was due to close in August but we are still receiving donations. As a result, the Association has decided to extend its Appeal deadline until the end of 2011.The goodwill shown to us during this Appeal is a valuable endorsement of the Pioneers and their work on tackling alcohol and drug abuse.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the extended Pioneer Appeal can do so using the following bank account details: . The Pioneer Total Abstinence Association Account, Bank of Ireland, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, Bank Sort Code: 90 -05-19, Bank Account No: 82111280 (PTAA No. 2 Account). Members can also donate by cheque to Pioneer Head Office @ PTAA Head Office, Sherrard Street, Dublin 1.
The Pioneers work to help address problems in society caused by alcohol and drug abuse through faith and prayer, abstinence from drugs and alcohol and advocacy. Further information on The Pioneer Association is available from www.pioneerassociation.ie. New members are always welcome.
