Marking Mission Sunday
The Star of the Sea parish Sandymount, which is twinned with the Jesuit parish of Matero, Lusaka, Zambia, received greetings and thanks from the local children in the parish and the Zambian Provincial Emmanuel Mumba SJ, marking mission Sunday in the Church on Sunday 23 October. Parishoners had raised funds to build a school and enable the continuing education of aids orphans in the parish. They also collected €3,000 (gathered loose change from many houses in the parish) for the feeding programme for children who attend the school. The Jesuit parish there is a lively hub of learning and worship, and the congregation were assured of the prayers and thanks of the local community in Matero by James Neenan, Sandymount parishoner and founder/co-ordinator of the Matero project.
