Pope Video: The beauty of marriage

June 9, 2021 in News

“Is it true, what some people say,” the Pope asks in this month’s Pope Video, “that young people don’t want to get married, especially during these difficult times?” Countering that attitude, he asserts that “Getting married and sharing one’s life is something beautiful.” He recognises the hardships and the complications, but he insists that it is worth the effort. “Let us make our own the love which is God’s dream for us,” he adds.

The Pope’s prayer intention for the beauty of marriage is in the context of the special year dedicated to the family, which began on March 19, 2021, with the following motto: “Family love: a vocation and a path to holiness.” This dedication was intended to coincide with two anniversaries of Apostolic Exhortations written by Pope Francis: firstly, the fifth anniversary of Amoris Laetitia, the post-synodal exhortation on ‘Love in the family’; and also the third anniversary of Gaudete et Exsultate, on the call to holiness in today’s world.
