Pope Video: For the care of water
In his prayer intention for September 2026, distributed by the Popes Worldwide Prayer Network », Pope Leo invites us to pray that “Water be protected so that we might learn to appreciate it with gratitude, justice, and moderation, and so that we might know how to defend the right of every brother and sister to have equal access to drinkable water.”
Pope Leo’s prayer intention focuses on the protection of water and the importance of ensuring equitable access to clean and drinkable water. The intention highlights water as an essential resource for life and as a gift that carries particular significance within the Christian faith, especially through its role in Baptism.
The intention also draws attention to the responsibility to protect water from waste and pollution, to use it with moderation, and to recognise access to safe drinking water as a matter of justice and human dignity.
