Pope Video: For women who are victims of violence
The Pope Video for February 2021 » bears the title, ‘For women who are victims of violence’. It presents Pope Francis’s prayer intention that women who are victims “may be protected by society and have their sufferings considered and heeded by all”.
The Pope has often addressed this subject in the past. He has noted that “too often, women are insulted, beaten, raped, forced to prostitute themselves….” “If we want a better world,” he continues, “we all need to do a lot more for the dignity of each woman.”
This month’s video specifically refers to psychological, verbal, physical and sexual violence. “The various forms of ill-treatment that many women suffer,” the Pope remarks, “are acts of cowardice and a degradation of all humanity. Of men and of all humanity.”
The artistic shape of the video this month is somewhat different from the Pope Video standard. With the collaboration of award-winning Italian creative designer Hermes Mangialardo, it represents, through animated illustrations, the story of a woman who is a victim of violence, who finds courage to escape from the tunnel of abuse thanks to her own strength and to the help of the community.
