Climate leadership, not climate hypocrisy

The Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice will join fellow members of the ‘Stop Climate Chaos’ coalition at the National Climate Demonstration in Dublin on Saturday, 14 November 2026. Participants will gather at 1pm at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin 1, alongside people from across Ireland and around the world, to demand urgent and meaningful action on the climate crisis.

Also on the day, ‘Faiths for Climate Action’ communities are coming together today for a series of climate-focused events led by Laudato Si’ Movement, AMRI and partners. The running order of their day is as follows.

At 11:30 a.m. they will screen the documentary “End Fossil Power” presented by Trócaire at the James Joyce Centre. Attendees must register in advance; to register email [email protected]. At 12:30 p.m. an interfaith prayer for care of our Common Home will take place outside the Garden of Remembrance and all are welcome.

At 1pm a National Demonstration for COP31, organised with Faiths for Climate Action, will assemble outside the Garden of Remembrance. Participants will carry banners and placards calling for climate justice and stronger action ahead of COP31 and join in with the National Climate Demonstration.

Organisers say the events are open to people of all faiths and those concerned about the climate. Media and participants are asked to arrive early for registration and assembling outside the Garden of Remembrance.

Commenting ahead of the demonstration and events, Siobhán McNamara, Province Ecology Officer at the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice, said: “The events are a chance for people to join millions of others around the world who will take to the streets to demand an end to fossil power. Together, we can protect the people and places we love, and reclaim a safe, healthy, and fair future.”

Siobhan McNamara says that the JCFJ has a clear agenda for the march and for the future. “We will be calling on our government to take action for a fair and just transition for everyone, a fossil free future, energy for people, not for data centres, and affordable public transport for all. Above all what we need is climate leadership, not climate hypocrisy.”

‘Stop Climate Chaos’ is a coalition of civil society organisations, of which the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice is a member. Its membership includes development, environmental, youth and faith-based organisations working together to ensure that Ireland plays its fair share in addressing the causes and consequences of climate change.

The coalition’s vision is for Ireland to make a rapid and just transition to a carbon-free future, guided by the principles of climate science, human rights, public participation, social justice and equality.

At the demonstration, the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice will stand alongside fellow coalition members in calling on the Irish Government to deliver:

  • A fair and just transition for everyone, ensuring that workers and communities are supported as Ireland moves towards a carbon-free future.
  • A fossil-free future, through the rapid and just phase-out of fossil fuels and investment in renewable, community-centred energy.
  • Energy for people, not for data centres, placing the needs of households and communities at the heart of energy policy.
  • Affordable public transport for all, making sustainable travel accessible and affordable for everyone.
  • Climate leadership, not climate hypocrisy, ensuring that government policies and decisions match Ireland’s climate commitments.

The Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice encourages members of the public to join the demonstration and make their voices heard.
