Japanese inspiring
“It’s uplifting and beautiful to witness, as an Irishman, how the Japanese people are responding to the earthquake and tsunami disaster.” So says Donal Doyle SJ, superior of the Irish Jesuit community in Tokyo. Speaking to AMDG Express Tuesday 22 March, he explained how “they have reacted with quiet dignity to the suffering inflicted on them, and without complaint are looking after and supporting each other. Their sense of values is truly impressive”. Despite their terrifying experience, the Jesuit community members are all well. “Tokyo is a quiet city at the moment and people are going about their buisness calmly, trying to rebuild their lives.” According to Fr Doyle, they are getting good news about the atomic reactors, and “once they are sorted out, the real work of rebuilding after this terrible tragedy will begin.”
