Trinity at Taizé

taize_01Peter Sexton, the Jesuit chaplain in Trinity College, and his Methodist colleague Julian Hamilton, accompanied eight students on the annual pilgrimage to Taizé in Burgundy. Five of the eight were due to be ordained deacons in the Church of Ireland in September, in an age-range from 20s to 50, and just three Catholic undergraduates – quite an ecumenical affair. Three of the ordinands had been with Peter in last year’s pilgrimage – the flavour of the Resurrection that pervades the place drew them back. Taizé in May was relaxed and quiet, with only about 300 people there – the week following ours there were 4,500 expected for Pentecost! As ever, all found the experience enriching and profound. Three traditions are pictured in our photo: from left: Catholic undergraduate Ross and chaplain Peter, Methodist Jools and Church of Ireland Jon (eyes closed).
