Faith gives hope

In this podcast, Pat Coyle speaks with Irish Jesuit Donal Godfrey SJ, who lives in San Francisco. Donal, who works as a chaplain at the University of San Francisco, discusses the current state of affairs in the United States since Donald Trump’s re-election as president. He also addresses the potential impacts of the sweeping set of tariffs launched on Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’, 2 April 2025.

Donal admits that it feels like “dark days”. He finds hope and inspiration, however, from Pope Francis’ reflections and teachings. He says “Faith does help me to live in hope – in fact at the end of the day it is where I find my hope.”
