About
CLC is a worldwide lay organisation, lived out in small groups of 6-10 people who strive to live a common way of Christian life based on the Exercises of St Ignatius.
Michael Gallagher SJ is the Ecclestical Assistant to the CLC groups in Ireland whose members are part of larger communities organised regionally and nationally, all forming one world community.
The CLC way of life is modelled on the example of Chirst as understood by St Ignatius: Memebrs commit to austere and simple living, in solidarity with the poor and the outcasts of society and integrating contemplation and action. They commit to living lives of love and service within the Church and always in a spirit of discernment.
CLC in Ireland had its early roots in 1967 when Tony Baggott SJ wrote a booklet ‘On the Move’ explaining the changes from Sodalities of Our Lady to Christian Life Communities
In 1973: The General Principles of the organisation were explained and adopted and for the following three years a National CLC Assembly was held, each time preceededed by 8day directed retreats for CLC members.
CLC reached the peak of its development in 1982 but members still meet regularly in Leeson St under the spiritual guidance of Michael Gallagher SJ.
The CLC is present in all five continents, in almost sixty countries.
