sleepout_01The 25th Belvedere College Annual Sleep-Out and Fast will take place on 22-24 December outside the Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin 2 and at the GPO, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1. First established in 1985, the ‘Sleep-Out’ involves past and present pupils and teachers sleeping on the streets to raise awareness of the problem of homelessness and raise funds for a number of charities, including the Peter McVerry Trust, Focus Ireland and Home Again Society. Last Christmas the ‘Annual Sleep-Out and Fast’ raised €139,000, and since the Sleep-Out first began they have raised one million euro. “Although students of the Sleep-Out will experience only a fraction of the suffering of Dublin’s homeless, with the help of the public we hope to be able to raise enough money to supply the basic human rights to these people,” says Manus Carlisle, a 6th year student.
