Collecting in the cold

sleep_out_01The Annual Belvedere College Sleep-Out and Fast 2010 raised  €111,000 for charities for the homeless: Fr. Peter McVerry Trust, Focus Ireland and Home Again Society. Facing the worst conditions ever seen in these 25 years, over 50 past and present students slept rough for 3 days and 2 nights on Dublin’s O’Connell Street and College Green in Christmas week. With several layers of the woolliest jumpers and a warm smile, the brave boys withstood the rain, wind and snow to shake buckets and raise funds for those that really need it this year. Despite the harsh conditions and a quieter Christmas in the city centre, the generosity of the public (and of President McAleese, pictured) was outstanding. Donations can still be made online through the Paypal system on www.sleepoutdublin.com.
