Football fans raise funds for Belvedere
Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United football club, is going to help raise funds for Belvedere’s Social Integration Scheme (SIS) by appearing as guest of honour at an event in Croke Park on 1 April. The aim of SIS is to cover the costs of full secondary school education at Belvedere for boys who would not ordinarily be able to attend, for financial or social reasons. ‘An evening with Sir Alex’ is a unique event which is expected to facilitate more of these scholarships. Sir Alex – who is giving his time free of charge – will speak after dinner and answer selected questions from the audience. The Ireland v. Italy World Cup qualifier match will be shown on big screens, and Sir Alex will comment on the match at full time. Full details of the event are given below.
AN EVENING WITH SIR ALEX
On April 1st, Sir Alex Ferguson, Manager of Manchester United Football Club, will be the guest of honour at an event in Croke Park in aid of the Belvedere College S.J. Social Integration Scheme, (SIS). The Scheme was formalised in 1986, and was the first of its kind in Ireland.
The basis of the scheme is to offer a 6-year Jesuit Education to boys who, due to financial or social circumstances, might not otherwise consider Belvedere College as an option for second- level education. Currently about 8% of the college’s student body are availing of the Scheme. It is hoped that in the coming years, that number will rise to 15%.
The Scheme is in urgent need of funds to ensure that in these uncertain times, it can continue to offer less privileged boys similar opportunities as those who have gone before them. An Evening with Sir Alex Ferguson is a unique way to help raise funds for the Scheme. Sir Alex, who is generously giving his time free of charge, will deliver an after-dinner speech as well as fielding selected questions from the audience. The Ireland V Italy World Cup Qualifier match will be shown on big screens, and Sir Alex will comment on the match at full time.
Tickets for the event are €150 per person and include a five-course meal with wine. All funds will go to the SIS and there will also be a raffle on the night. To book your tickets please call Orla Kerbey at Belvedere College S.J on 8586633 or email [email protected]
