Ger begins the conversation by recalling his early involvement with the Belvedere Youth Club, followed by the opportunity to study at Belvedere under the Social Diversity Programme (SDP) with the support of staff such as Brother Eamonn Davis SJ, Mr Padraic Madden and Fr Jim Culliton SJ. He talks about the difficulties in adjusting to school life as well as discovering his talents especially on the playing field.
Ger tells Pádraig of his growth and learning in Ignatian spirituality while at the school and how it is still very much part of who he is today. For example, he prays the Jesuit Examen (examination of conscience) every day, listens to the popular school song ‘Only in God’ and tries to be a compassionate presence in his work with younger people at UCD. He discusses the school values of community, Jesuit tradition, justice and the magis. Plus more.
