Major Superiors of the Society of Jesus Gather in Rome

Irish Jesuit Provincial Shane Daly SJ was one of the Major Religious Superiors from around the world attending the Meeting of Major Superiors (MMS) in Rome». Jesuit.org» carried daily news of the event and Irish Jesuit Communications also updated Jesuit.ie» with details of the meeting days and the topics that were discussed by those gathered.

The meeting included 100 participants, including Provincials, Regional Superiors and Conference Presidents, along with the General Council and some Major Officials from the Curia. The oldest participant was 83-year-old Fr Miguel Garaizábal, Regional Superior of Thailand, while the youngest was Fr Sebastian Sujevic from Croatia, age 47.

Fr Chuks Afiawari, Communications Director for the General Curia, and his team made sure that Jesuits around the world could follow proceedings. “We’re writing updated articles, doing posts on social media, and live streaming some events”, he said. “We want to ensure that everybody feels part of this meeting. Personally, I think it’s a great chance for the ongoing renewal of the Society.”
