Cautious welcome for carbon budget

In a week where the United Nations said that climate change promises fall short and risk a ‘destabilised world and endless suffering,’ the Irish Government launched legally binding proposals for reducing carbon emissions.

The ‘carbon budget’ was announced on Monday 25 October 2021. In this interview with Pat Coyle, Dr Ciara Murphy, Environmental Policy Advocate with the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice, outlines exactly what the budget proposes. She also gives her own evaluation of its worth, given that the government has so far failed to live up to its previous promises about reducing Ireland’s carbon footprint.
