Synodality in the Gregorian
In the third part of his interview from Rome, Gerry Whelan SJ tells Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communications about how the Gregorian university is responding to a call from Cardinal Grech in the Vatican’s Office of the Synod.
Gerry Whelan is Director of the Department of Fundamental Theology in the Gregorian. And Cardinal Gretch has asked that the university provide a theological response to the academic questions arising from the synodal process taking place globally over the next two years.
Gerry also explains his own project regarding the synodal process based on the spirituality and epistemology of Bernard Lonergan SJ. He is building on Lonergan so as to find a balance between the deductive ‘certainties’ of right-wing thinkers in the Church,(many of whom do not want a synod at all) and the potential ‘ ‘relativisim’ of the left.
