Irish Jesuit missionary Donal Doyle RIP

Irish Jesuit missionary priest Donal Doyle SJ died peacefully at Loyola House in Toyko, Japan, on Tuesday 6 May 2025. He was 93 years old and had been a Jesuit for 73 years. Members of his community in Tokyo will offer two Masses and other members of Province one Mass for the repose of his soul.
A vigil service will be held on Monday May 12 at 7:30 p.m. and the funeral Mass on Tuesday May 13 at 4:00 p.m., both in St. Ignatius Church, Tokyo. Click here to watch a live streaming of the Mass »
Irish Jesuits International have paid tribute to Fr Donal, saying that he lived a remarkable life. He was known to former Irish presidents Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese, and to the current president, Michael D. Higgins.
Fr Donal was a recipient of the 2015 Business and Education Presidential Distinguished Services Awards. These awards recognise those habitually resident outside of Ireland who have served the country with distinction and those who have actively contributed to Ireland in a sustained manner.
He will be missed by all who knew him and his legacy through the alumni and communities he encouraged is testament to his mission. Click here to read further »
