Sacred Space Advent Retreat

November 28, 2014 in News

Sacred Space and Pray as you go have just published an online retreat for Advent in audio and text format. The theme of the retreat ‘All the Generations’ invites visitors of both sites to reflect on the ancestors of Jesus that are recorded at the start of St Matthew’s gospel. A new session of the retreat will be made available on Sacred Space and Pray as you go each week during Advent and the Christmas season.

The Sacred Space Prayer Book for 2015, and the companion booklet for the Advent and Christmas season, have also been published recently. These publications are based on the reflections of the Sacred Space website, which is visited every day by thousands of people from every corner of the world. The books can stand alone or complement the website and can be kept on the desk at work, on a bedside table, or in the travel bag. The books and website are based on the premise that God is everywhere, all around us, constantly reaching out, even in the most unlikely situations and so we can pray anywhere, whether at work, at home, on the bus or even in a cafe. Readers are gently guided through short stages including preparing the body and mind to pray and culminating in a reflection on a scripture passage chosen specially for the day.

Sacred Space, which started in 1999, has proven hugely popular as a website and is now available in 20 different languages including Irish. About one in every five visitors to the site are first-time visitors. In July Irish Jesuit Provincial Tom Layden and Brian Paulson SJ, Provincial of the Chicago Province, announced news of their formal agreement to make Sacred Space a joint apostolate of the two provinces.
