tullabeg_01.jpgThe Jesuits in Tullabeg: Book Two – A Century of Service was launched by Mr. Michael Byrne, the well known local historian, in the Parish Hall, Rahan, on Monday 2 March. The author, Kevin Laheen SJ, and the publisher, Mr. John O’Brien, were also present. This is the second volume of a trilogy. Fr Laheen’s first book, in which he told the history of the College as far as the year 1860, was published last year. In this second book he traces the growth of the College until it became a most distinguished establishment, both in academic and sporting successes. He also recounts the sad history of how those successes were brought to an abrupt end in the mid-1880s. Tullabeg eventually became a novitiate, for which purpose Fr. Peter Kenney had originally built it seventy years previously.
