Pope Video: An environmentally sustainable lifestyle

In the Pope Video for September 2021, Francis urges people to question their lifestyles and the way they use the planet’s resources, in order to propose a change based on responsible care, respect, simplicity, and austerity.

During this month of the Season of Creation, the Holy Father emphasises how “young people have the courage to undertake projects for environmental and social improvement.” He says that adults can learn a lot from them since they are at the forefront in all matters related to care for the planet.

In Living Prayer 2021, Irish Jesuit Paddy Carberry SJ refers to the young Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg. He says, “This shy teenager speaks with an authority well beyond her years. Her style is direct, unapologetic and full of conviction.”

He continues, “Young people, who are largely free of vested interests, often have a clarity that an older generation lacks. We need to listen to them, for the future is theirs.”
