Edgar H. Schein, the subject of David’s latest book, is a Swiss-born American business theorist and psychologist. He is known for his significant contributions to the field of organizational behavior and organizational development. He developed a model of organizational culture that consists of three levels: artifacts and behaviors, espoused values, and assumptions. Schein also introduced the concept of career anchors, which are sets of needs, values, and talents that individuals are least willing to give up when making career choices.
David’s book adopts a reflective perspective on the work of Edgar Schein as a social scientist and shows how he developed his craft as an engaged organisational scholar-practitioner through reflexive attention to his experience in working with managers and organisations and generating knowledge out of action. He aims to present Schein’s work to students and scholars of organisation studies and to offer a reflexive methodological framework to engage scholar-practitioner in any field.
