‘A divine calling – a lifelong battle’

Soline Humbert recently had her autobiography, A Divine Calling: One Woman’s Lifelong Battle for Equality in the Catholic Church », published by Liffey Press ». Part of the equality she seeks centres on becoming a Catholic priest. This desire is born out of a profound experience of being called by God to this vocation, even though only men can be ordained (as deacons or priests) in the Catholic tradition.

In this interview above with Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communications, Soline tells the story of her vocation, and shares about the power and pain of a divine calling that will never go away, but at present, cannot be fulfilled. She says her book and interviews are her gift to the synodal process currently taking place within the Catholic church, initiated by Pope Francis ».

The author also speaks about her faith, and her hope that times are changing within the Catholic Church. She says this may be the kairos moment (an decisive or opportune time, often referred to a ‘God’s appointed time’) that will allow for the potential of her divine calling to be fulfilled.
