‘Music for the soul’ from the archives

August 10, 2023 in Featured Podcasts, News

In a podcast interview from the RNN archives, Irish Jesuit Brendan McManus SJ spoke to Pat Coyle about how music helped him get through some of the hardest moments in his life and how it also allowed him to make spiritual breakthroughs while on retreat.

Set during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, Brendan talked about how music is God’s way of speaking to us in times of trouble and how we should be wary of drawing lines between sacred and popular music. He claimed that if St Ignatius Loyola were alive today he would be using music as an integral part of his spiritual exercises.
