Putting new life into the gospel
A new book of reflections on St Matthew’s gospel aims to help people find the God of the gospel in their everyday lives. Its author is Donal Neary SJ, the former PP of Gardiner St Church, and it is published by Messenger Publications. The book is based on the homilies he gave on Sundays to the parishioners in the Gardiner St area and the many other people who came to church there for the well-known Gospel Choir Mass on Sunday evenings. Donal’s pastoral experience in this inner city parish is reflected in the down-to-earth language of the book and in the manner in which he is able to connect the stories of two thousand years ago with the lives of people in the 21st century.
In this interview with Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communications he reads some extracts from his work. He says the book would be of help to anybody interested in preparing themselves prayerfully for Sunday mass, or for bible study or parish groups.
He also talks about some other recent books from Messenger Publications, including a book on dealing with bereavement through suicide by Brendan McManus SJ, author of Redemption Road: Grieving on the Camino, and an in-depth book on daily gospel readings for 2016-2017 by Martin Hogan.
