Taking a second look
Vincentian priest and spiritual director Father Michael McCullagh has recently published a book With Due Respect: Taking a Second Look at God, at Self, at Others. In this interview with Pat Coyle of the Jesuit Communications Centre, Father Michael talks about what inspired him to write the book. He explains that the word respect comes from the Latin ‘respectus’ and the verb ‘respicere’ to ‘look back at’ or in Michael’s words to “Look at things through a different lens”.
He notes that people such as Brian Keenan, Etty Hillesum, and Maya Angelou all took a second look at life through a lens of faith and hope, even during captivity and times of extreme hardship.
Michael also reflects on his work as spiritual director over many years and how we can all be “mystics in action”. Listen to the full interview above »
