You can’t earn the gift of God’s love

In this Sons of Ignatius podcast, Niall Leahy SJ shares a talk he gave as part of a ‘Life in the Spirit Seminar’ at Gardiner Street Parish, Dublin. It is a reflection on the older son in the Parable of the Prodigal Son and how sometimes Catholics can get it wrong when they think that doing all the ‘right’ things will earn them their salvation.

Fr Niall looks at how the older son worked so hard for his father over many years, and yet felt anger for not receiving an award. The Irish Jesuit sees this attitude or mentality played out in today’s world; he challenges Catholics to get it right and bring their insights to prayer. And he even encourages them to go a step further.
