He leadeth me
Last week my community received a visit from Fr. Tony Corcoran SJ, former superior of the Jesuits in Russia and now serving in Kyrgyzstan. Given the current war Ukraine, and Tony’s visit, this month’s email looks somewhat to the East.
A welcome visitor from Kyrgystan
Fr. Tony Corcoran SJ serves as the Apostolic Administrator (kinda a bishop) of the church in Kyrgyzstan, near China. I had heard about Tony on the grapevine but it was a great joy to meet him during his brief visit to Dublin. Here is a link to an interview with him.
Fr. Walter Ciszek SJ
One of Tony’s Jesuit heroes is Fr. Walter Ciszek SJ who was a missionary in Russia during the communist era. His spiritual memoir He Leadeth Me is a classic that is well worth reading. Bishop Robert Barron is also a fan.
Sons of Ignatius
in the latest episode of Sons of Ignatius podcast, Dave and I discuss Pope Francis’s environmental encyclical Laudato Si’ and the mission of caring for God’s creation. Our podcast is now available on Youtube as well as podcast apps.
Mary we crown thee
In May we honour our Blessed Mother Mary in a special way. During his visit to Ireland Fr. Tony went to the shrine at Knock, Co. Mayo, for a few days of quiet prayer and reflection. Here at Gardiner St. we’ve been singing this classic. Sometimes the oldies are the best!
As always, if you ever want to talk just drop me an email.
With best wishes and prayers,
Fr. Niall
