Jesuits for Climate Justice at COP 29
COP29 the annual global climate summit, will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from Monday 11 to Friday 22 November, 2024. Leaders from around the world will gather for two weeks of crucial climate discussions.
The Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice » is working together with the Jesuit European Social Centre (EU), Jesuit Missions UK, the Arrupe Centre (Madagascar) and the Jesuit Centre for Ecology and Development (Malawi) on the Jesuits for Climate Justice – COP29 Campaign »They are urging delegates to COP 29 to prioritise three key areas: the effectiveness of the Loss and Damage Fund, climate debt cancellation, and acceleration of a just energy transition.
The JCFJ and their colleagues underline the significance of this UN conference as “An important part of the international calendar as we collectively grapple with rising emissions and the increasingly obvious impacts of climate change.”

The JCFJ says, “We hope that COP29 will mark a turning point for climate action. We know you do too.”
And in the words of Pope Francis re COP 28, “May those taking part in the Conference be strategists capable of considering the common good and the future of their children, more than the short-term interests of certain countries or businesses. In this way, may they demonstrate the nobility of politics and not its shame.”
