Pentecost and Confirmation

Pentecost Sunday falls on 9 May this year, 2024. At this time also the confirmation season comes to a close.

In this interview from the RNN archives, Australian Jesuit Richard Leonard speaks with Pat Coyle of Irish Jesuit Communications about the importance of the sacrament of confirmation and its correlation to Pentecost, which is seen as ‘the first confirmation’.

Referring to the ‘gift of tongues’ associated with the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles, he points out that “it is just as much the gift of listening as it is the gift of speaking”.
