Jesuit priest Fr Browne’s vow of obedience saved his life when, by telegram, his Provincial ordered him off the Titanic. But the gifted photographer still managed to get some wonderful shots of the ship and its passengers. And according to Eddie O’Donnell SJ (who found and restored his 42,000 photos), some of them helped to clarify what happened on that fateful night. Messenger Publications is marking the centenary of the sinking (1912) with the launch, Wednesday 23 Novemember 2011, of Fr Browne’s Titanic Album, edited and revised by Fr O’Donnell. Una Reilly, Chairperson of the Belfast Titanic Society, is guest speaker, and fittingly the event will take place in Cobh, Co Cork, from whence it sailed. All welcome to the Cobh Heritage Centre, 7pm. Enquiries to Vera Casey, Messenger Office. 01 6767491. Listen here to an interview Eddie O’Donnell gave to Pat Coyle, JCC.
