‘Practical Christianity’

The online prayer platform Sacred Space will continue its popular annual online retreats with its Lenten retreat for 2026. The theme of this year’s retreat is ‘Practical Christianity’, with an emphasis on living out faith through our actions, and on contemplating the teachings of Jesus.

The retreat is written by Mary Murphy, from Co. Kildare, Ireland, who now lives in Southwest Hungary. She moderates the prayer requests for Sacred Space and has a background in Ignatian Spirituality.

The retreat begins on Ash Wednesday, 18 February, and ends on Easter Sunday, 5 April. It features a daily opening prayer, scripture reading, reflection and contemplation on the scripture, a closing prayer, and an image for meditation.

Ciara Ó Catháin, office administrator and content editor of Sacred Space, notes that for many people, Lent is a time of sacrifice. She then poses some questions for those considering doing the retreat. “But what if, instead of giving something up, we were to start doing something? What if we were to start putting our faith into practice every day, no matter how desperate we feel, no matter how much we despair, no matter how difficult times are? This retreat gives us insights into how we can put our faith into action and make it a living faith. This will be a daily challenge for many, but it will be worth it.”

The retreat is also available in Spanish, Hungarian, Portuguese, Catalan, French, Italian, and German.
