Renew our hearts
Bishop Alan McGuckian SJ has created a Sacred Heart Novena Booklet for the diocese of Down and Connor. The booklet contains a piece of scripture and a reflection for each day. The Novena to the Sacred Heart took place from Thursday 30 May until Friday 7 June 2024.
Bishop Alan recalls a story he read recently about Blessed John Sullivan SJ and a Dominican Sister in Wicklow. Blessed John told the nun to say a few short prayers each day dedicated to the Sacred Heart and she would become very holy. These prayers, which can be found in the opening paragraph of this booklet, are simply:
Sacred Heart of Jesus I believe in your love for me.
Sacred Heart of Jesus I believe you love me now.
Sacred Heart of Jesus I place all my trust in Thee.
I believe in God, I hope in God, I love God.
I am sorry for having offended God.
Bishop Alan says, “The heart of Jesus wants to renew the heart of each one of us, together we turn to him
in trust that he will bring the healing and renewal that each one of us needs”. He hopes that this novena will be prayed either individually or together by parishes, groups, schools, and families.
