Messenger books for autumn

Messenger Publications have launched their Autumn 2021 Catalogue » which includes plenty of reading material for the new liturgical year. There are books on Ignatian spirituality, chaplaincy, scripture, thoughts for the day, and more. According to Cecilia West, Director of Messenger Publications, the world has certainly changed since she introduced the Spring 2021 Catalogue, with so much more optimism around. She is delighted that bookshops are now open again. She encourages readers to support their local bookshop and to order from them whenever possible.

This year sees Jesuits worldwide celebrate the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St Ignatius of Loyola. To launch the ‘Ignatius 500’ year, Messenger Publications have joined Jesuit publishers worldwide with the publication of Walking with Ignatius, by Jesuit Father General Arturo Sosa SJ, in conversation with Darío Menor. Other Ignatian titles in the Autumn 2021 Catalogue include See God Act, where Michael Drennan SJ considers the ministry of spiritual direction, while Joachim Hartmann SJ and Annette Clara Unkelhäußer write about contemplative prayer in a retreat setting in Joy in God: Rekindling an Inner Fire. Sacred Space The Prayerbook remains the most popular title each year.

Messenger Publications welcome to their list Tríona Doherty and Jane Mellett who have written The Deep End reflections for many years. Fr Kieran J O’Mahony OSA continues his popular series, Hearers of the Word, and there is a new collection of weekday reflections from Fr Martin Hogan, My Words Will Not Pass Away. Divine Diamond by Fr Kevin O’Gorman OSA is a study of the many facets of the Gospel of John.

A large collection of essays has been published on different aspects of chaplaincy entitled Chaplains: Ministers of Hope, edited by Fr Alan Hilliard. The Messenger Advent Booklet is a prayer resource written by Fr Donal Neary SJ, editor of The Sacred Heart Messenger magazine. Streets and Secret Places by former TV reporter Denis Tuohy is a collection of thoughts for the day based on a long and varied life in the media, with a foreword by Sir Trevor McDonald.
