Journeying into the Light
Journeying to the Light by John Mann is a series of daily reflections from Advent, through Christmas and onto the Epiphany. It is published by Messenger Publications who say the book is a welcome companion for those who might like to travel thoughtfully and prayerfully through this special time in the church’s year. It will be of help to anyone who wants to establish a regular period of contemplation and space through Advent and Christmas, traditionally a time of distraction and busyness.
The author is an Anglican priest and former Dean of Belfast Cathedral who was awarded the Lambeth Cross for Ecumenism in 2018. He is now retired and lives with his wife on the Isle of Man.
The book is based on the daily reading from Advent Sunday onwards. The author weaves together insights into scripture along with his observations on our everyday world. It has at its heart the startling truth of the Incarnation – that God has come erupted from all eternity into time and history and dwells with us. By making links between the light of hope that is the incarnation, and our everyday experiences, John Mann demonstrates how God is close and involved in all aspects of our lives.
The book is ecumenical in its reach, as many of the readings coincide with those appointed for both the daily Mass in Roman Catholic Churches and in Anglican Churches.
